Your Path to the Fez

Every Shriner is first a Master Mason. Here's how the journey works.

Becoming a Master Mason

  1. Meet the basicsBe a man of good character, at least 18 years old in Illinois, who believes in a Supreme Being.
  2. Ask a MasonFreemasons don’t recruit, so you have to ask. “2B1ASK1”: to be one, ask one. Any of our members will gladly help.
  3. Petition a local lodgeFill out a petition, sponsored by lodge members. A committee will meet with you and your family.
  4. Ballot & degreesOnce the lodge votes you in, you go through three degrees: Entered Apprentice, Fellowcraft and Master Mason.

Why We Do It: Shriners Children's

Every parade and every fundraiser ties back to one mission: changing kids' lives.

Since the first hospital opened in 1922, Shriners Children's has grown into a network of locations across the United States, Canada and Mexico. Kids get expert pediatric specialty care regardless of their families' ability to pay.
